Public Theologians take seriously Jesus’ two great commandments, that to love God is to love our neighbor. The late black liberation theologian James Cone phrased it like this: “theology is political language. What people think about God, Jesus Christ, and the church cannot be separated from their own social and political status in a society.”

While silence on issues that have been deemed by religious talking heads as secondary matters, from poverty to imperialism to racial and social justice, we’re here to overturn those tables and speak truth as loudly as we can.
